Salaried GP -month fixed term contract to end of Sept 2026 to cover maternity

2-6 Sessions - to start April 2026 or immediate start

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive team at St Isan Road Surgery for a fixed term to cover maternity leave. Our practice has been newly extended and refurbished and serves a population of approximately 8,000 patients. The team consists of 3 Partners and 2 Sessional GP’s, 3 practice nurses, 1 HCA and a full complement of highly experienced admin support staff.

We are situated in the Heath, a lovely part of Cardiff, only 3 miles away from the City Centre and close to excellent schools and parks.

This post would be a fantastic opportunity for any GP or ANP with an interest in, or experience of supporting students and teaching. A regular on call is associated with this post, but the candidate should be prepared to cover an on call during any period of absence/annual leave.

Job Overview

We are looking for a motivated and caring Practice Nurse to join our friendly and supportive GP practice. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care, supporting the management of long-term conditions, and promoting overall patient wellbeing.

This is a part-time role (16 hours per week) with a flexible working pattern, and we are happy to accommodate school-hour working where needed.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care, including patient assessments, treatments, and follow-up care

  • Undertake routine nursing duties including:

    • Chronic disease management (Asthma and Diabetes) 

    • Immunisations and vaccinations- Adult and children 

    • Travel health advice and risk assessment

    • Cervical screening

    • Wound care and dressings

    • ECGs and phlebotomy

    • Health promotion and lifestyle advice

 

  • Accurately record and manage patient information using EMIS

  • Manage wound care

  • Support GPs and the wider clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care

  • Maintain accurate patient records in line with practice policies

  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development

Requirements

• Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with current and valid registration
• Sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to primary care
• Previous experience in a practice or clinical setting is desirable but not essential
• Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with patients
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
• A compassionate, professional approach with a strong commitment to confidentiality

Job Summary
The post holder will lead and support expert clinical practice, education skills, leadership and role development, be expected to exercise a high degree of professional autonomy and make critical decisions to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.

The post holder will facilitate the development of clinical practice and take a lead role in the clinical assessment of patients who have a complex and undetermined presentation.  They will work alongside Medical and Pharmacy colleagues to maintain patients in a nursing home setting and will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of care.

The post holder will act as an expert resource within the Practice team, providing specialist advice regarding the clinical management of individuals presenting with minor illness or chronic conditions.
